Dyslexia Education

According to the International Dyslexia Association, “Dyslexia is a difficulty with language.  For people with dyslexia, intelligence is not the problem. The problem is language.”

One of the most common misconceptions about dyslexia is that it is a simple matter of reading words “backwards”, but dyslexia is not an optical impairment.  Instead, it refers to structural and functional differences in the brain that result in language learning difficulties associated with auditory skills.  It is not a disease, and although it cannot be “cured”, dyslexic students can be trained in specialized techniques that enable them to achieve success.

Individuals with dyslexia require a structured, multi-sensory language program and direct instruction in the code of the written language.  If they receive specialized instruction complementing their own learning styles, they can master reading, writing, and spelling and gain confidence.

Odyssey helps students build self-esteem and confidence in spite of a learning difference, empowering them to understand their special minds and to find and use their strengths to a greater advantage.  Teaching self-advocacy is a part of the daily program.  The School provides early intervention that promotes success through its comprehensive program that includes research driven teaching approaches that are reinforced in daily tutoring sessions.
