The Odyssey School Mathematics Program
The Odyssey Math Program supports individual learning styles to guarantee that each student achieves his or her potential. A carefully sequenced, incremental, success-oriented approach is essential for dyslexic students to develop a solid foundation in the language and basic concepts of mathematics. A multisensory approach is as necessary to teaching mathematics as it is to teaching language, since learning mathematics involves language. Manipulatives, mental math, and written computation are fundamental components of the curriculum, and learning occurs by doing, rather than by simply watching and listening. Concepts are introduced in small increments and consistently reviewed and practiced to mastery. Students are placed in small groups according to their aptitude and learning style in math. Odyssey teachers strive to meet the needs of each student, while remaining cognizant of how the students' language challenges impact their learning process.
