The Odyssey School Physical Education and Athletics Programs

Physical Education Curriculum:

Odyssey involves students at all levels in a comprehensive physical education program and extracurricular sports activities.  These programs help students integrate the mind and the body, while also teaching them to practice skills, to strategies, and to cooperate through teamwork.

The Odyssey School’s Physical Education Program encourages children’s physical development, including hand-eye coordination, large motor skills, and personal fitness, while fostering key life skills such as teamwork, problem solving, leadership, sportsmanship, cooperation, and communication.  Each activity in the Odyssey’s Physical Education program supports the children’s understanding of Odyssey’s Pillars: Kindness, Honesty, Respect and Hard Work.

The goals of the Odyssey School's Physical Education Program include increased skill proficiency, enhanced physical capabilities, positive self-esteem, teamwork and sportsmanship, and an understanding of the importance of fitness and healthy lifestyle.

Athletics Program:

Odyssey offers after school sports teams for our Middle School aged students, including levels Sloop to Brigantine. There are usually two teams for each seasonal sport in soccer, cross-country, basketball, and lacrosse. About 50% of our students participate each season. We form teams by skill and age level so that we have the best experience for all involved.

The goal of the after-school sports program is to be supportive of the Odyssey Pillars.  We seek competition, skill growth and sportsmanship during our three season of sports. Odyssey competes with other schools of similar size.

Our seasons tend to run about 8 to 9 weeks with practices or games Monday through Thursday. Our practice times are from 3:15 to 4:20, pick-up at 4:30. They will be asked to go to after-care after 4:45. Please check our Athletics calendar for game schedules.

Student pick-up from an away event- Parents are responsible for picking up or arranging transportation from an after-school sporting event. If you are unable to do this contact myself, Griff Kroll, and I will assist you in finding a parent who may transport your child to Odyssey or their residence for pick-up at a later time. All sporting events will last a little over one hour from their starting time. All coaches will wait with students to ensure safety till they are picked-up.

Foul weather: Emails to parents concerning cancelations will been sent out no later than 12:00. Also information will be available at front desk.

Visiting teams: Park in designated parking spaces only,

                             No pets allowed on campus.
