Speech and Language Curriculum
Our eight full time licensed and certified Speech Language Pathologists (SLP) facilitate oral and written language skill development in our students in a variety of contexts. Our SLP faculty members work closely with tutors to determine ways in which students’ specific needs can be enhanced in tutoring sessions. The department members also observe students in the classroom to gain a better understanding of how their language abilities affect their academic performance. The goal is to maximize the collaboration between the department members and the rest of the faculty to facilitate positive results.
Our Speech-Language team serves numerous roles, including co-teaching in the classroom, consulting with tutors and other faculty members, assessing speech and language skills, providing direct services to our children and conducting research. Research studies have been presented at the both the IDA (International Dyslexia Association) conference and the American Speech-Language Hearing Association conference (ASHA).
Members of the department apply their specialized knowledge of language development and the oral language deficits that underlie dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities in the provision of a broad range of services to the school.
