Should we apply?
Each family has individual circumstances which make it difficult to dictate specific guidelines to determine whether or not you should apply. However, we can provide you with general information based on your specific financial situation. Again, communication is the key. We are committed to working with families who value the Odyssey education and who demonstrate need.
How is “need” determined?
Financial need is the difference between tuition and the determined reasonable contribution of the family. We utilize the services of SSS (School and Student Services for Financial Aid) to help in the process.
What is SSS?
SSS, is a service provided by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) that is used by over 2,400 schools. The service provides a needs analysis, an objective method of determining a family’s ability to contribute to educational expenses. It is designed to help simplify and ease the process of applying for financial aid. SSS evaluates your financial information and delivers it directly to the schools to which you apply.
How do I use SSS to apply for financial aid?
The application consists of 2 major components : the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) and submission of associated documents required by Odyssey. Online and hard-copy applications are available beginning November 1st, 2010. The SSS website is www.nais.org. The printed applications are available through the Admissions Office. The electronic version has several advantages including a built-in error checking process, online document collection and quicker delivery to multiple schools. In addition, the report is sent to schools within 2 weeks when submitted by mail and as little as 48 hours when submitted electronically. A toll free helpline is available at 800-344-8328. If you prefer to mail the forms, the new mailing address is: SSS By NAIS Odyssey requires the following documents which are submitted directly to SSS. All applications are due on January 21st, 2011. Applications submitted after that time are placed in the Financial Aid Wait pool. This also applies to incomplete applications as the Committee is not able to make an informed decision without all documentation.

What is the deadline for application? What is the consequence of applying late?
How does my application for financial aid affect my child’s chances for admission?
Financial aid decisions are made separately from Admission decisions.
Our financial situation is challenging due to unusual family circumstances. How do I communicate this information and does it impact the potential award?
Specific circumstances such as unusual medical expenses, or a change in the family constellation such as divorce or death of a spouse are considered in the process. There is a space provided on the PFS form to briefly describe unusual circumstances (question 32). You may also write a letter directly to Odyssey and/or speak directly with the Admissions Office.
If parents are divorced, each must fill out a PFS. The Committee will consider the assets of both parents, as well as those of a step-parent before determining both eligibility for an award and amount of the award.
Who makes the decisions for financial aid awards?
The decision is made by a Financial Aid Committee which includes the Head of School.
When am I notified of the decision?
Financial Aid awards are mailed with acceptance letters and enrollment contracts.
Does additional aid ever become available?
Yes, additional funding is sometimes available in the Spring.
