A Bird’s-Eye View from your Director of Admissions

Back in Action – Odyssey’s Afterschool Athletics!

The sounds of cheering voices and encouraging shouts can be heard once again across Odyssey’s fields!  After a year hiatus, Odyssey’s middle school athletes are back in action.  Following COVID-19 safety guidelines, Odyssey soccer and cross country teams have had a very successful and fun fall season.

“We’ve held practices four days a week and have had a number of competitions.  Our girls and boys soccer teams played more than six games, and the cross country team ran in four meets, including two that were hosted at Odyssey,” said Coach Brian Vaught, Odyssey’s new Athletics Director who joined us in August.

The conclusion of fall sports will bring an exciting jump rope clinic during the two weeks before the winter sports season begins.

“Our jump rope clinic was extremely popular and successful during 2019.  We were disappointed we couldn’t run it last year, so we’re super excited to offer it again,” shared Ms. Katie Madigan, Math Teacher and Math Department Co-Chair.  Ms. Madigan was a member of her local competitive jump rope team that competed in the Junior Olympics.  Additionally, Ms. Grace Kim, School Counselor, co-coaches with Ms. Madigan.

“Odyssey is so lucky to have Ms. Madigan and Ms. Kim sharing their talent and enthusiasm for competitive jump rope with our students,” said Coach Vaught.

Odyssey’s afterschool athletics program will continue with girls and boys basketball this winter, as well as co-ed squash.  The spring season will bring girls and boys lacrosse and co-ed track and field.

“Odyssey’s athletic program gives our students the opportunity to explore and develop their passion and talent for sports and to learn about how to be a true team player,” Head of School Marty Sweeney added. “We love to see our students shine!”
