Becky Stevenson Appointed Lower School Head

Becky Stevenson, Odyssey tutor, lower school language teacher, and math teacher, will be officially appointed as our Lower School Head in July.

Ms. Stevenson received her B.A. from the University of Delaware and her Masters in Teaching and Learning with a specialization in Instructional Coaching from Clemson University. Ms. Stevenson is a veteran lead teacher with experience serving as an educator, curriculum developer, math coordinator, Director of Aftercare, and Director of Summer Programs at Summit School, a school serving first through eighth grade students with dyslexia.

She served as a teacher, learning specialist, department chair, and instructional coach during her six years at Roland Park Country School. At RPCS, Ms. Stevenson was charged with navigating the implementation of a new lower school math curriculum, supporting teachers and parents as the changes were taking place. Ms. Stevenson served as an adjunct professor at Towson University teaching the Methods of Math Course, and as a consultant with the organization MathWorks: Promoting Excellence in Mathematics Education, providing professional development workshops in New York, Connecticut, and Alabama.

Here are some words from Ms. Stevenson: “My time at Odyssey has opened my eyes to the many ways an Odyssey education is unlike any other. Our individualized curriculum, tight-knit community, focus on social emotional skills, and commitment to excellence combine to generate a powerful transformative experience for our students. As so aptly defined in our mission statement, ‘What begins here changes everything.’ I feel privileged to take on this role and work with our teachers to support our mission and foster an environment where our students can thrive. I look forward to partnering with you. “
