Phono-Graphix® Training

The research-based Phono-Graphix® program incorporates the training of phonemic awareness skills while simultaneously teaching the alphabetic code. The Phono-Graphix® method is streamlined and quickly gets the students on the page and reading. The Phono-Graphix® Training Course offers training in diagnostics and clinical/classroom applications. Phono-Graphix® revolutionizes the teaching of reading and spelling. It is an efficient and effective method for use with new readers and dyslexic readers of all ages.

This course is ideal for educators in traditional, Montessori, and special education settings, as well as preschool and daycare leaders, speech-language pathologists, adult literacy specialists, and parents or guardians who homeschool.

Bella Curran, M.S., is a reading specialist and the Head of Early Learning at The Odyssey School, in which she focuses on supporting our youngest students and their parents. Bella has also served as Assistant Lower School Head, reading and writing tutor, summer camp director, and more. Besides her administrative duties, Bella oversees a number of special initiatives like the Stevenson University “We All Learn” certificate program, and is an active member of the Odyssey Outreach team. She is a compassionate champion for both parents and children with reading challenges.

Samantha Sullivan, M.Ed., is a tutor and math teacher at The Odyssey School, where she works with children in grades 1–8. She has also served as co-tutoring coordinator, supporting the tutoring department by staying up to date with the most current research in language and literacy development, supporting the implementation of evidence-based programs, and fostering collaboration across the department. Samantha is also a member of the Odyssey Outreach team, providing professional development to schools as well as information sessions for parents and community members. She is passionate about educating others about dyslexia and research-based practices and ensuring that all students are given the opportunity for success.

After completing the course, participants take an online examination. Successful completion of both the course and exam qualifies you as a certified Phono-Graphix® Reading Therapist.

No advance reading or preparation is required. Just come ready to engage in interactive, hands-on learning and discussion.

This course provides research-based tools to strengthen reading and spelling instruction for all learners, including those with dyslexia. Educators gain practical strategies for identifying reading challenges and delivering targeted, effective instruction. Schools and educators who adopt Phono-Graphix benefit from improved student outcomes, evidence-based literacy practices, and increased confidence in supporting diverse readers.

We recommend taking notes by hand, but laptops are welcome if you prefer typing. Please bring a refillable water bottle—filtered fountains are available throughout the building. If you receive your Phono-Graphix® kit before the course starts, we encourage you to leave it at home for future use because all course materials will be provided on-site.

Dress comfortably! The training space is air-conditioned, so consider bringing a light sweater or jacket.

Lunch is not provided. We’ll take a one-hour lunch break each day, and there are several convenient options nearby, including Chipotle, Fresh Market, Subway, Playa Bowl, Starbucks, and The Wine Merchant. You’re also welcome to bring your own lunch.

Workshop registration fees are non-refundable. However, your ticket may be transferred to another attendee if The Odyssey School is notified in writing by emailing Bella Curran at bcurran@theodysseyschool.org on or before June 1, 2026.
